Julian Rosefeldt is a film based artist. His latest work, Manifesto, is on display at the Hamburger Bahnoff in Berlin, Germany. The project consists of 13 ten minute videos where Cate Blanchett plays a range of rolls from teacher to homeless man. At first they don’t all seem to be linked but there is a 2 minute monologue about halfway through each piece that all start at the same time. Blanchett faces the camera and recites Rosefeldt’s manifesto in an almost robotic tone of voice. As they are all set in motion at the same time it can become quite overwhelming. When I first realized that each piece starts the monologues at the same time I was very overwhelmed. I absolutely love this collection of works and the directness of the message portrayed. It was a lovely opportunity to see them on show.
